Dr. Muhammad Nasir Ahmad

Dr. Mohammad Nasir Ahmad is currently working as an Associate Professor (Forensic Anthropology) and is In-Charge of the Forensic Anthropology Unit in the Department of Forensic Medicine at Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore.

He graduated from Delhi University and completed his post-graduation and Ph.D. in Forensic Anthropology from Sagar University, Madhya Pradesh. A committed forensic anthropology practitioner who believes that "Life is a learning portal," he went on to complete a second Master of Science in Research Ethics, in the Yenepoya University Fogarty International Center's Research Ethics Master's Program for India, supported by the National Institute of Health (USA), Grant No- R25010305. He has also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Bioethics and Medical Ethics.

Dr. Nasir has held notable positions, including:

  • Scientist C at the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad (Indian Council of Medical Research)
  • Fellow at the National Innovation Foundation – India (Department of Science and Technology)
  • Research Associate to the School of Good Governance, Government of Madhya Pradesh
  • Research Associate to the Directorate of Forensic Sciences Project, Government of India

In 2023, he became the first Indian to receive the prestigious HHRRC Grant from the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), USA. Under his leadership, the Forensic Anthropology Unit at Yenepoya University recently established India's first Taphonomy Centre, a pioneering facility for forensic research and training. Under his guidance, scholars are doing their PhDs in the domain of forensic anthropology.

Dr. Nasir also serves as the Course Coordinator for India's first Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Anthropology and Odontology at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University). His scholarly work has been recognized at numerous national and international conferences, and he is an active member of esteemed professional organizations, including:

  • American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS)
  • British Association of Forensic Anthropology (BAFA)
  • Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine
  • Indian Science Congress

With his extensive expertise, Dr. Nasir has served as a resource person, chairperson, and speaker at several reputed national academic institutions. He has also organized numerous national-level workshops and training programs on topics such as:

  • Forensic Anthropology
  • Exhumation in Medico-Legal Investigations
  • Anthropometry
  • Ethics of the Dead

He is frequently invited as a guest speaker and evaluator for seminars and webinars, addressing critical subjects such as the forensic anthropological approach to skeletal remains in medico-legal cases and humanitarian forensics.

In addition to his academic and research roles, Dr. Nasir is one of the Founding Directors of KAINO AVINYAS Pvt. Ltd, a start-up focused on research and innovation in forensic science and healthcare services.
